WUN RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT FUND
Research Development Fund
The WUN uses subscriptions fees to underpin its portfolio of research activities. Researchers from across the Network are invited to apply for funds on an annual basis. These awards are intended to provide seed funding for activities and research groups are expected to use them in part to identify more sustainable sources of funding.
Many of our partners encourage international development with funds of their own. Information about institutional funding should be sought from WUN coordinators. Institutional and RDF funds may be combined to increase resources.
The RDF is not open to researchers from outside of the WUN.
2013 Research Development Fund
Please note that the 2012 application cycle has been completed.
The 2013 WUN Research Development Fund (RDF) will offer grants of up to £15,000 (average £10,000) from an overall fund of up to £200,000 to support research collaborations in the following WUN Global Challenges:
- Adapting to Climate Change
- Global Higher Education and Research
- Global Public Health and Non-communicable Disease
- Understanding Cultures
The focus of the fund is on providing up to one year of seed/pump-priming funds. Programs may include exploratory research initiatives, targeted workshops, faculty exchanges and the formation of collaborative networks, among other activities. Applications that incorporate a research mobility component for early career researchers and postgraduate students are encouraged.
Applications must first be submitted to the local U of A WUN office (Dr. Stefan Scherer – stefan.scherer@ualberta.ca) no later than mid-October 2012.
The local U of A office will be reviewing, ranking and approving applications prior to submission to WUN. A maximum of three submissions will be accepted from each WUN member university.
Applications along with all accompanying documents will be submitted to the WUN central office no later than early November 2012. Applications that are incomplete or received after the closing date will not be considered. Applications will be assessed and ranked by a selection committee made up of at least two members of the WUN Academic Advisory Group and the Chief Executive. Applicants to the WUN Research Development Fund will be notified of the status of their application by January 2013.
The RDF 2013 application guideline and the actual RDF 2013 application form will be posted to this page as soon as they are available.
Note to U of A applicants: Current University of Alberta procedures state that all research-related applications and proposals submitted for external funding must be circulated for review and approval prior to submission to the sponsor. This approval is obtained using the Pre-submission Supplementary Signature page. Additional information tied to the pre-submission signature requirements may be found on the Research Services Office (RSO) website.
Having the pre-submission supplementary page enables RSO to efficiently facilitate the setting up your project and transferring of funds. The benefit is that RSO reviews the applications before they go in and captures them in Grants 2.0 so that time is not spent trying to track down details of a successful application.
Please contact your local U of A WUN office in an early phase when you consider submitting an application to the WUN RDF 2013.
